The procedure for applying for War of 1812 medals has been updated and is now a two stage process.

To apply, first reach out to General Society of the War of 1812 Vice President General, Military Awards, William Edward Sekel at [email protected].  Inform Mr. Sekel of the recipient’s name and confirm that he meets the requirements for the War of 1812 Award of Merit and Medal.  Mr. Sekel will then send an award certificate and a ribbon bar that can be worn on the student’s uniform.  The Award is approved by all Service Departments.

Next, please reach out to the Society of the War of 1812 in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania at [email protected] and provide the same information.  We will confirm the mailing address information that we have on file with you and then send the medal to you.  If you would like to have a member of the Society present the medal at a graduation or awards ceremony, we will be happy to try to arrange this.

The criteria for the War of 1812 Award of Merit can be reviewed at the General Society’s website: www.gswar1812.org/ROTC
